    This customer may have never come back again, or even worse, may have left you a negative online review on Google+, Yelp or Facebook.

    In our experience, over 90% of negative feedback results from a simple misunderstanding that can easily be fixed. Customers want to be listened to. They want to know you care and are willing to help them.

    So here’s what you should do:

    1) Contact your customer immediately. By phone and email if you can. The system has already asked them “what you could have done” to make things better. Read their comments and connect with them.

    2) Address the issue for the customer if it makes sense. Most of the time just talking it through with the customer will resolve the issue. In some cases, you may want to offer a “token” of appreciation to your customer, like a free entrée or meal, some equivalent discount to make them feel special.

    3) Confirm with your customer that everything has been addressed to their satisfaction.

    Walking through these steps will usually help you save this customer.     • Call the customer – an email may not be enough or not be read.
    • After solving the issue that triggered the negative review ask the customer if they are willing to revise their review.
    • If you can’t resolve it, or if the customer is not willing to amend the review then leave a “business comment” if the review was posted online. Everyone will see your response. If the review was received via Velocity’s Reputation Review process, you can choose not to show it online.This will tell other customers that you are engaged and that you care.

    Does Google punishes sites that do so?

    Those are valid concerns. We can’t answer for any or all Reputation Management Services or Companies in general, however we can assure you that Velocity Marketing is in full compliance with all guidelines and our method has actually shown to increase Google rankings.

    Here are some key points to know and remember about Velocity Marketing’s solutions:

    1. Velocity Marketing considers review sites and their guidelines in our process and adheres to them.
    2. The system does not coerce or offer incentives for a user/customer to leave a review online, but it does however simplify the steps needed for them to leave one. Velocity enables a smoother process for leaving an online review, but does not violate any of the review sites policies.
    3. We allow the business to decide if all, some or no customers are to be directed to review sites. We often find that for those businesses that are doing a great job, guiding every client to a review site leads to significantly more reviews.
    4. Velocity Marketing does not syndicate content or create duplicate content which can have negative effects.

    “Why syndicating and posting duplicate reviews is bad” Syndication to third party review sites was popular several years ago before the primary consumer review sites had consolidated around the major review sites. Now most sites which accept syndicated reviews have such a narrow reach that syndicating reviews to them offers little value as they are unlikely to be seen by many.

    We syndicate your review to the most important place- YOUR website. There it adds additional searchable content, adds rich snippet data that the search engines love and increases the chances that your site will not just be found but will stand out from the competitors when it is.

    Velocity Marketing does not syndicate reviews to third party sites for the simple reason of it likely being counted as “Duplicate Content”.

    Giving the customer the option to copy/paste the content will have the same result.

    Google defines “Duplicate Content” as:
    “Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar.”

    This is especially important since Velocity Marketing uses a proprietary method to dynamically display reviews on your website as “Original Content of your website” that will be indexed by search engines as content on your site.     Another popular choice is the option to ask for “Rating Only” in the initial feedback request email, which will assure that only “happy” customers see your Social Links, and since the customer has not yet left a written testimonial or review, they are more likely to do so on the social and review links that you can choose and pre-determine within Velocity Marketing’s Reputation Review Method.
